Websites and apps are generally getting more accessible and easier to use.
AgreeFollow up response for question: Can you give any examples of websites and apps getting either easier or more difficult? The Tesco app changed the way you add individual vegetables so that once you have swiped up to or 3 times for example it then only tells you the weight not the physical number of items you are ordering when you look back to review. I have flagged this with them. Searching for items has improved however. Twitter keeps changing and certain functions are more difficult such as locating and clicking on links sometimes and being able to read comments under tweets. I use the lists function now and find that I can only add to my list using my old phone with the old operating system as the new one has bugs. I have stopped using Facebook because I find it so inaccessible, posting on it is so tricky and searching is so frustrating but I believe that is the same for sighted people. I have not even attempted Instagram because I hear so many bad things about accessibility there.

As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Not being able to save and come back after a rest - sometimes all information put in will disappear. When little energy saving steps are missing, such cursor automatically going to the next box, and not switching to numbers from text and vice verso. I know this ounces petty but it does help if these little helpers are present. Sites that aren’t laid out simply and clearly.

Some of the timeFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples? Can’t remember the site off hand, but it was something to do with disability needs - blue badge perhaps - after painstakingly giving all my information I then had to print it all off and post anyway. I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
Strongly agreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?Uber. Lyft. Uber Eats. GrubHub. Postmates. Sad because I can’t drive and have to order out every other night because I physically cannot cook- or even get the door. So these are services I once out a LOT if money into. But I might as well go back to limo services and hiring a part time chef if I can’t get service. I’m unusual in that I used to be wealthy, pre-cancer. But disabled people are from all walks of life.

Companies: TwitterMore Details response for question:There’s no alt text for GIFS. And why is being more accessible to the HoH or vision impaired NOT itself an accessible process? If you have fatigue it’s a nightmare. Why isn’t there a button to record/play an audio description?
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
A lot of times it’s not about my feelings. It’s about the resume I couldn’t submit, or the place I couldn’t buy from or the protest I couldn’t attend. I can manage my feelings. It’s it a great feeling. I can’t manage to use the world.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Always something I can’t hear or can’t resize. Other people born with 20/20 vision or undamaged hearing deserve the internet more than I? That’s the idea that is reinforced. That by virtue of being disabled, I’m unworthy.
-

I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
AgreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?Unless you are a small business who cannot recreate an accessible option due to financial means I will forgive, but when you are a large company who does nothing when your customers flags accessibility issues up, you will lose my trust. Also if you're a large company who goes out their way to insure that no work needs to be done to save money, like the Dominos case, I will stop using your business altogether.
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Unless their isn't other sites which can do the same tasks, I am fine about it. I take a small satisfaction when I go back on an inaccessible site, telling Google that there is something wrong with this site as the bounce rate is high, I understand I might be in the minority, but it gives me little comfort.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Badly built websites, frustrating to me when explained that a better built site means better SEO, yet companies refuse to fix it when it clearly benefits everyone.
-

Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Over live chat staff seems to like to send screen shots when explaining, which is no good. When When told about the VI, they just told me to ask someone else. Updates to software/apps to fix accessibility issues are always put on the back burner, as if disabled customers aren't equal customers. Personal experience with Google and their FileStrema app on Windows using NVDA, when you upload something it spams the reader with 'activity', when reported, they told me that it has been fixed, but they don't have any information when the new update will be coming out. I pay for Google Drive, so if it doesn't get fixed soon, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
-

I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
Neither agree nor disagreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?I had a long-standing complaint about Sky UK's SkyQ app. I made a youtube video about how utterly poor it was to use as a blind person and they called me into the office to have a chat with the developers. Subsequently, the app was re-written from the ground-up and is a much better experience as a result of this. Sometimes it pays to complain, and complain loudly. If people don't know their app is bad, they can't be expected to fix it.
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Depending on my mood. Either: 1. Irritated, so I close the browser in disgust, or 2. I feel that they clearly don't want/need my business, so I take it elsewhere.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
1. Websites with inaccessible controls. 2. Websites with 'Click Here' 'Download' 'Read More' etc, links with no context if you tab or use screen-reader link keys to navigate through them quickly. 3. Lack of well-thought-out image descriptions on websites and social media. Although services like Facebook and Instagram both have machine-learning algorithms to predict what's in an image, it's often useless information, such as: 'Image may contain: Sky, outdoor, beard, tree and nature.' Why the emphasis on beard? And yes, this *always* happens. If there's any hint of a beard in an image, it's mentioned over more useful info, such as clothing, weather, how many people and so on.

Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above? These days I see more and more apps moving to more custom models, and not adhering to standard practices. In the case of for example, 'The Trainline' for iOS, I had to report an accessibility issue in the most recent version of the app, because unlabeled buttons at the bottom of the screen were necessary to select that I had a railcard and wished to add it to my booking. On Mac and Windows, the new consensus seems to be that, 'if we can make our app pretty and flashy-looking, we will.' This move takes away from, and breaks many accessibility common practices and makes it so that a blind user is practically required to use some kind of OCR solution just to navigate. When installers skip the standard Back and Next buttons in-favour of pretty icons or custom controls, omitting the allowance of the tab key, or not showing any window to a screen-reader, this is a huge and unnecessary problem. It puts people off, stops them using apps and programs in certain cases, and if the user is not a power-user or doesn't have time to fuss with it, will simply mean they go elsewhere and that company has lost a valued customer. It is not acceptable in 2020, but we're still having this conversation and it shocks me.
-
Is there anything you would like to do online that you currently are unable to do?
Not that I know of. However, due to dyspraxia as part of being autistic I do struggle with phone use, and find many apps less accessible than websites, as touch screen devices can be challenging for me.
-
Do you have any feedback about this site or the Big Hack generally?
A fantastic project. My one suggestion as an autistic person is that even in this survey, on the topic of accessibility, some questions seemed quite vague which made them difficult to answer. Many people need very specific questions, rather than the more general 'name any website you've ever visited', 'give an example' or 'is website accessibility improving?'.
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Frustrated.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
I would say that it is a website that does not have a live chat or email option for communication. It's just as bad if they do have these options, but then respond with "you'll have to phone us to deal with this issue", when it could just as easily be dealt with online. Often live chat with me, directly, is no less secure than my husband calling a company on my behalf.
-

Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above? For me, poor spelling. As an autistic person I place a lot of value in accurate spelling and feel that I can't trust a business that has not even bothered to look over the text on their website. If a website has many spelling mistakes, it feels extremely unprofessional and I'm not able to use it. It takes very little to ask someone to look over your spelling, and this is something that any trustworthy business should be able to do before putting their website live. Otherwise, they deter me from using their services.

Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Prior to starting university, I was desperate to find a way to inform the support services of my accessibility needs and was disappointed that it was difficult to navigate their website and find an appropriate contact email, which delayed my 'special needs' plan being developed. Not everyone is tech-savvy and no doubt that disabled people find it even more difficult to get support. If I can't find a contact email or find myself navigating a difficult website or app, I do get anxious.

-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Very frustrated. Especially as I am recently disabled so had no issues previously. If I am trying to shop online and the site doesn't work for me I don't shop there. I also feel very excluded. As I suffer with cognitive fatigue ever ounce of energy I waste in a poor website stops me doing something else that day.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
My general intolerance to using screens since encephalitis. Lack of accessibility options even on Government websites eg tax office or accessibility options that are very flawed in their navigation.
-
How often are you unable to complete a task online?
Quite oftenFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples?Computers cause cognitive fatigue quickly so my time on a computer is very limited so I need to be able to navigate easily. If I can't I give up and switch off. Lots of animation or movement on screen makes matters worse affects my balance and gives me nausea. The wrong colour contrast, flickering, flashing lights I will leave the site immediately. Using a mobile to access the internet is easier but if it is not user friendly I will give up.
-
Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Following brain injury I have issues with movement and animation on screens. Pop up moving and flashing adverts are a problem. In fact anything that flashes or moves, some strong colour contrasts and patterns are difficult. Lots of scrolling is an issue and contact details are often at the bottom of websites. Also with memory problems not having an option to saved items to review later is a problem
-
Is there anything you would like to do online that you currently are unable to do?
Don’t know, out of energy now.
-
Do you have any feedback about this site or the Big Hack generally?
Being able to see all the Qs on one page would have been easier as I ended up putting info on the 1st question that would have been more relevant later on. Also it would mean I’d know how long the survey is, and therefore could have bookmarked it for later knowing its length, rather than having to push on and finish it as I’d started it even though I’m getting tired and headachey. For conditions where pacing is crucial, this would really help!!!
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Frustrated. But it also uses up my precious energy, and as someone who is partly housebound due to fatigue, a simple task not being simple can use up all my energy for that day and prevent me from being able to leave the house, or do another essential life task.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Lack of thought that goes into the way people do things when they’ve not been affected by disability.

Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?I recently booked a hotel room and the box for access information in the booking form was only 100 characters. I needed to request a room that is ground floor or lift accessible as I use a walking aid, someone to help with luggage as I cannot lift things due to my joint issues, gluten & dairy free options for the included breakfast as I have intolerances, and a quiet room away from big groups or small children and not with a window overlooking traffic etc, due to a neurological condition which means I’m noise sensitive. The only number available to call was an expensive one, not in my included minutes. Almost every shop or business website does not state if it has step free access or not, I often book tables for my group of friends to eat out and it’s impossible to tell without phoning them, which when I have fatigue and cognitive issues is very draining for me. I wish there was just a default tick list that all businesses had to put on their sites where ticked all the accessible options they had (e.g. hearing loop, Braille menu/product info, step free access, mobility scooters for loan, wheelchairs for loan, disabled toilet, changing places toilet, blue badge parking, seats scattered around store, quiet area, etc) if every place had the same list in the same format and it was a legal requirement, then it would be so quick to look at the website and know if you can go there in person. I also find that some websites use lots of flashy graphics, e.g. video starts playing when you go to the site, or text is overlaid on top of images which due to neurological conditions makes it really difficult for me to find and process the information I need from the site. Facebook can also be a problem when people/organisations do those posts that are text over a background, which are really hard for me too. Both give me a headache really quickly and can use up all my screen energy for the day within minutes. If sites/post kept images and text separate or next to each other then I could read the text, and then look at the image. My brain just can’t handle both at once.

Play more games with my friends, especially Pokémon GO on the iPhone. There are some tools that can be easily adapted for text-to-speech software, but Niantic don’t seem to be interested in widening the player base to those with a visual impairment.

Websites and apps are generally getting more accessible and easier to use.
AgreeFollow up response for question: Can you give any examples of websites and apps getting either easier or more difficult? In recent years, Facebook has introduced actions that allow you to swipe up or down to access the reaction option instead of having to double ap each time. The Facebook app on iPhone is wonderful, but the website is an absolute mess.
-
I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
Strongly agreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?Sometimes I need to use starfish, because I need to book appointments with my academic advisors. The website is clunky, and doesn’t respond well to jaws, which makes it tiresome and stressful to try and book a meeting when I need academic support.
-

Companies: Facebook | Pokemon Go | Starfish | BlackboardMore Details response for question:The Facebook app is fantastic, but the website is atrocious
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
It makes me feel like the Internet doesn’t belong to me, and that it is not a welcoming place. When I can’t access the website, or get to where I need to go, I despair because I have to rely on: one of my friends round for their working eyes to help me out. It’s trips me off my independence, when technology is such a massive part of my life, that I can’t do what I need to.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
As a visual impaired individual, I find it greatly saddening when website designers don’t conform to the W3C. I am often searching for technical support email addresses so that I can send them information on how to adapt their website, which I usually find they do once they have the information, but I don’t understand why the information isn’t inherently taught in universities to web designers.
-
How often are you unable to complete a task online?
Not very oftenFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples? My university uses an administrative program called starfish, which is not very accessible using jaws. Despite me telling them that it is not very accessible, they continue to use it and some tutors aren’t organised enough to make appointments for me, so I am forced to try and go through system myself. This takes much more time and energy, and is stressful.
-
Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Frequently find shows on Netflix that I would like to watch, but do not have audio description. Apps and games on the iPhone, such as Pokémon GO, that have no accessibility features for voice-over. Diesel mean that I miss out on things that my friends are all enjoying and using, and as a young person, makes me feel very alone in the world.
-

Some of the timeFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples?Query with student finance told me to ring them up. Message on phone told me to go online! I struggle to use phone, had to wait over half an hour to get through and then they didn't know what I was talking about! Similar problem with hmrc. Would only sort out problem over the phone and was waiting 45 mins to speak to someone. You are kept on hold with messages telling you to go online, so you are being charged all that time!

Websites and apps are generally getting more accessible and easier to use.
AgreeFollow up response for question: Can you give any examples of websites and apps getting either easier or more difficult? On the whole there is a move towards clearer design, particularly from organisations who wish to strive for it. However, more and more people are building there own and there are therefore many examples of poorly thought out websites. It’s two steps forward one step back, currently.

It's a good idea to find out what different people find helpful or not - some technology can be great. My son, who has high-functioning Asperger Syndrome- on autistic spectrum so often finds socialising tricky-relies on his computer & internet a lot to keep in touch with friends and family and find out new things.

As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
I think it's that I just get the hang of how something works & then it changes -Windows gets updated & everything's in a different place..Some folk think that's great - I just find it confusing. A friend in a wheelchair says Siri's great and gives independence.

Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Sometimes things move very fast & then it's hard to get back to where you want. There are an awful lot of ads- probably from cookies on stories I've read ( from mainstream media). Maybe just learning how to keep off these things ('click bait' my son says ) would help. I do worry about scams - fake emails & websites can look so convincing.

Companies: EE | TicketmasterMore Details response for question:EE- if you want to cancel your contract you have to ring up and are not allowed to cancel by any other means necessary. I had to switch to a sim only via online chat as I couldn’t ring up so it’s maliciously done to stop people leaving.
Ticketmaster- disability tickets only purchased via telephone. Some venues have a separate disability line like Manchester Arena, which is okay but we spent 1 hour on that line on my partners birthday for tickets and they tried to charged us £80 for disability seats because “the view was good” yet there’s limit disabled seats therefore they’re basically ignoring there are people with visual disabilities so why are we charged more? For Liverpool Arena there is no separate hotline and was no disabled tickets left when ringing up a minute after it opened. Ticketmaster must change their ways to make concert venues disability friendly.

In particular they have got rid of bags with orders lately and in order to get assistance with this you need to ring the store when it would be much simpler to request it online.

As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
When something is unnecessarily complex. Usually shopping, but if there are a billion steps to checking out, or no clear delivery policy and I have to spend time and effort searching out answers. The quicker and easier it is to perform a task, the better.
-
Do you have any feedback about this site or the Big Hack generally?
I think the site is well laid out, works well on mobile, and is easy to navigate. There are decent sized buttons to help with fine motor difficulties, too, and the colour scheme makes the text easy to read but without being distracting.
-
Are there any websites or apps that you find difficult to use? Please add all that apply below.
Companies: AmazonEBayMore Details response for question:There are so many websites that I’ve struggled with that I can’t think of many particular ones to single out.
Adblock is essential for me – without it I can’t use the internet, but it doesn’t work on a lot of mobile devices and lots of websites won’t let you access the site without disabling the adblocker, usually along with an aggressive or sarcastic message directed at the user to blame and/or shame them for costing them revenue.

Like the company doesn't care in the slightest about me or anyone else with a disability or impairment.

Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Websites with animated adverts, video adverts and scrolling banners all mean that I can't concentrate on the webpage and have to get someone else to read it for me, or have to resort to holding a book over the distracting part of the screen to block it from view.

As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Products not arriving when they say they will and difficult complex design layouts. These are both impossible to deal with when you have autism and a visual impairment.
-
How often are you unable to complete a task online?
Quite oftenFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples? For example, completing Amazon orders but I tend to order from Amazon (reliable) or Sensory Direct for autism products I need as I can speak to a human about my order and get support to order what I want and need rather than struggling. I order most of my wants from Sensory Direct, LilBits and Chewigem, all companies who specialise in clients with ASD and can reassure over the phone if needed. Also their websites are accessible with Zoom fir iPad and iPhone as I’m also visually impaired.

Sort out my tax credits and apply for benefits. Won't let me register, don't know why, but won't accept my information and just asks me to call them.
-
Do you have any feedback about this site or the Big Hack generally?
It would be really good for you to take this forward. Especially to government departments who only offer extremely outdated facilities for deaf people. Insurance companies and banks who are not as accessible as they really should be for the deaf. I've had to put a lot of financial services and bills into my husband's name solely because he can phone up to deal with any queries - which seem to happen several times a year. I've had all bills in my name since 1985 when I left home aged 18 years. If I didn't have him I would probably have to disclose private information to a carer to help me deal with this stuff.
-
Websites and apps are generally getting more accessible and easier to use.
AgreeFollow up response for question: Can you give any examples of websites and apps getting either easier or more difficult? Many more are offering online chat. Those who are bigger businesses or more customer service orientated have much quicker email responses than the used to, say 5 years ago. I often avoid businesses where there a number of reviews/reports of lack of online response when something goes wrong.
-
I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
Strongly agreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?Sunlife as I've already explained. I'm a low gas and electric user as have wood fired heating and hot water. Absolutely no gas/electricity providers website has ever been able to deal with the low readings. It has often resulted in 3 emails for them to input the readings and then more emails to stop putting the monthly payments up and deal with any refund.
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Very angry, like I am discriminated against. I have many chronic health conditions, which mean I can't leave home without a carer and use a wheelchair outside of the house except for very short distances but being deaf is probably my biggest problem with contacting various organisations/government departments/businesses is the constant insistence of 'call us'. Government departments and banks being the worst as you have to deal with them. Businesses I just never shop/use them again and leave a review as a warning to others.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Lack of online chat, online chat but no facility to send you a copy of chat at the end, no email contact given. In this day and age why on earth should I have to buy a text phone, which cost 100s of pounds I don't have, to deal with Government departments? Best service nearly always comes from businesses selling physical goods. A significant reason that I use Amazon and eBay.
-
How often are you unable to complete a task online?
Quite oftenFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples?Sunlife home insurance, was unable to cancel as only phone numbers offered on website. After a lot of digging around found a complaints email address (only because I am quite skilled with searching internet) which I used to contact them. Not available on their website. Had an automated response but they didn't deal with the contents. Now on the verge of taking to the ombudsman.
-
Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?Constantly insisting that you need to put a phone number in to complete details for registration or for competitions, despite me being so deaf that the audiologist told me I'd be lucky to hear 50% of any phone conversation on the phone because I am deaf at the pitches which typically come at the start and end of words. I also have anxiety which really doesn't help. Worst culprit for phone only contact is easily Sunlife, was unable to cancel home insurance easily, eventually found an email address which I got an automated reply and no further response.

They tell me to book a disabled room online and then call their call centre to arrange having the single beds in the twin room put together and choose for bath or shower room. Turn up room is down twisty narrow corridor and a platform lift both not really suitable for a powerchair. Room has various issues try to report it to reception on check out along with drawing attention to the fact they use the narrow corridor outside disabled room to keep laundry and house keeping trolleys so I can’t get out of the room independantly... oh you’re have to call the call centre... yeah that worked out well for us... ok email? Yeah again no joy.

How often are you unable to complete a task online?
Some of the timeFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples?I often find the text is too small and there is no way to enlarge it, or it can be enlarged but it means I have to move the page from side to side to see it as rather than it being sized to the screen it just enlarges. It's very tiring having to do that. Buttons or tabs on a web page that are too small to hit easily and it's too easy to make a mistake if your mobility isn't great.

Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above? My disability is unique, so before I can attend a conference or festival or travel I have to find out if it can be accommodated. Buildings, trains and some airlines now pump fragrance into their spaces triggering anaphylaxis so it's become nearly impossible to travel and attend events in hotels safely. In cases where tickets are limited in quantity, you can't confirm your accessibility needs can be met before an event is sold out. At Heathrow Airport I was left waiting in a scented room next to duty free for wheelchair service to my gate. I had to wait in a hallway for over an hour and nearly missed boarding my flight because they forgot about me.

How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
BBC are to remove their text services which gives us news on pages 160 and sports on 300. Tis makes it more difficult for older deaf people who may not be computer literate enough to use alternative electronic technology. This amounts to discrimination by BBC.

As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
I find that the most frustrating part of the internet for me would be the increasing number of websites with a 'cool' look that affects usability. Form over function. Another issue is that some social media platforms especially Instagram don't allow full functionality online, so you can only upload pictures to Instagram from the mobile phone app because it has a camera.

Not very oftenFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples?Having mentioned considerable difficulties with Lastminute.com, I persisted and got there in the end. I may be obliged to do the same with TfL. I would have more trouble if I wasn't stubborn!
-
Please select any issues from the list below that you have experienced online
Multiple ResponsesFollow up response for question: Can you give any specific examples or another issue not mentioned above?TfL have no clearly visible E-mail address. It took me a full day of searching to locate one and I don't know if it works. A wait for accessible travel services is by no means the only issue as often one can't get them or they are unsuitable. Dishonest information On-line that has had a negative effect on me as a disabled person.
-
Is there anything you would like to do online that you currently are unable to do?
Use On-line banking. Get what I want when doing On-line shopping by being totally facilitated to do so.
-
As a disabled person, or someone experiencing an impairment, what is the most frustrating thing about using the internet?
Sites that claim to be disabled-friendly, such as TfL, and are not - then having to fight this, which can involve a tremendous struggle.

I would lose trust in a company if I was unable to use their website or app
AgreeFollow up response for question: Are there any specific examples you can give us?I wouldn't go near the Lastminute.com website ever again. The holiday company websites listed above are difficult to use in the sense that they can be less than straightforward and be misleading. Lastminute.com are particularly remiss when it comes to a misleading website, so much so I took them to court and won.
The Transport for London website has proven difficult to use when it comes to a) locating information, b) using their Contact form.
Tesco, British Gas and Airbnb sites can be difficult to use by virtue of being somewhat hit and miss. -

I enjoy reading The Telegraph On-line but was having trouble with adverts on the site that moved to the extent they were making me dizzy. I did need assistance from a computer savvy carer to get something done about this, but it is increasingly the case that the movement is suppressed and I’m not being distracted or made to feel unwell.
https://www.spectator.co.uk
With The Spectator I was easily able to contact them On-line re. a problem with accessing the site and it was resolved quickly and
efficiently. In short effective use of the website is facilitated.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
I use Wikipedia and the Google Search Engine facility to locate information and find doing so to be problem-free. As for Amazon’s website, I don’t visit it very often but when I do find the site easy to use and comprehensive.
Government Websites are easy to use. Although they are less than great in the sense they are too general and often of limited help https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rights-of-disabled-passengers-on-transport#history is useful. Similarly, websites for looking up questions of law tend to be OK. https://courttribunalfinder.service.gov.uk/courts/derby-combined-court-centre
In the recent past I have had reason to use the Derby Combined Court website and it is easy to use, helpful and results are positive.
I regularly use the National Express website for booking coach tickets and am completely happy with it. In addition, the site includes a dedicated disabled persons’ facility (ADDL NX) that is excellent.
https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk
The National Gallery website is professional, nicely set out and easy to use.
https://www.roh.org.uk
The Royal Opera House website is easy to use and contains a lot of information on access, disability provision and concessions for disabled-plus-carer.
https://www.cooptravel.co.uk
The Co-operative Travel website is fine as far as it goes, but I like to deal with one of their human operatives, who are definitely the icing on the cake.I do not use apps as I lack the know-how.
-
How does it make you feel when you cannot complete a task online?
Concerning my recent experience of seeking to complain On-line to TfL, difficulties with doing so have added to the distress and frustration caused by the issues I wish to complain about, including failures to make reasonable adjustments for disability. Although I eventually located an E-mail address specifically for disabled customers I still don't know if my complaint has been received, given I've had no acknowledgement and I'm wondering if said E-mail address might not be manned!

Having to root around websites for physical businesses/public services to find their accessibility information - which often they don’t actually list. Things like if they have steps or lifts wrc and being forced to email and wait several days or phone or just not use them and spend hours finding an alternative. Websites should provide information. Clearly. Upfront. In an easy to navigate and read way.

The general lack of accessibility for all. I just find myself not using services like this.

Do you have any feedback about this site or the Big Hack generally?
I find the scope forum very helpful. Although I feel the front page layout could be a little easier to navigate. Large buttons at the top for all recent posts or all of my own posts for example. There's also no one-button way back to the forum after viewing a message so you have to return to the front page first. I think the Big Hack is a very good idea, almost everyone has a smartphone or PC nowadays and they are so helpful for getting through everyday tasks with disabilities and conditions. I've only recently got a modern smartphone with large storage capable of holding many apps and with fingerprint recognition and it has made many tasks so much easier for me although there are still improvements to make. Anything that helps people with other conditions to use apps, particularly with audio or visual conditions, can only be a good thing!
